Our Vision

Providing equitable, accessible, affordable, and actionable genomic care for all

Equitable Access
Equitable

We make high-quality genetic testing more accessible to everyone regardless of background, income, or where they live.

Accessible
Accessible

We remove the logistical and financial barriers between patients and genomic testing — no long referral chains, no prohibitive costs.

Comprehensive Scope
Comprehensive

We deliver a full spectrum of genomic care — from proactive screening and diagnostics to treatment — in one integrated platform.

Actionability
Actionable

Our pipelines translate complex genomic data into clear, actionable reports delivered within weeks.

Rare Disease Advanced Diagnostics

Whole exome or whole genome sequencing to support carrier screening and diagnosis of unexplained, complex, or suspected inherited conditions when targeted panels are not conclusive.

Screenome™: Your Genetic Baseline For Life

Designed for population genetic testing

Screenome™ is Virotek’s most comprehensive genomic screening platform that integrates a full suite of clinically actionable reports into a single test, enabling personalized prevention, early risk detection, and proactive health management.

Questions & Answers

Common questions about genetic testing and our laboratory services.

  • Who should consider genetic testing?

Genetic testing can be valuable for many individuals, including:

    • Those with a personal or family history suggestive of inherited conditions

    • Individuals starting new medications or with a history of adverse drug responses

    • Anyone looking to take a more proactive, preventive approach to their health

Proactive screening is particularly recommended for adults over 50, where genetic insights can help guide early detection and personalized care strategies.

  • What sample types do you accept?

We accept saliva samples and blood samples (EDTA tubes). Our collection kits include detailed instructions and prepaid shipping.

Sample quality is validated upon receipt to ensure optimal testing results.

  • How does Virotek protect patient privacy?

We maintain the highest standards of data security and privacy protection, in accordance with HIPAA and applicable state privacy laws. Genetic information is also protected under the federal Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) for health insurance and employment.

All genetic information is de-identified, securely stored, and accessible only to authorized healthcare providers and patients through secure portals.

  • What is the turnaround time for test results?

Most genetic tests are completed within 10-14 business days from sample receipt. Urgent cases can be expedited.

  • Do you provide genetic counseling support?

Yes, we have certified genetic counselors available to support both healthcare providers and patients.

We offer genetic counseling to ensure optimal clinical decision-making and patient understanding.

  • How are results reported and interpreted?

Results are delivered through secure portals with comprehensive clinical reports following ACMG guidelines.

Each report includes variant classification, clinical significance, and actionable recommendations with literature references for evidence-based decision making.

  • What is a Polygenic Risk Score (PRS), and how should I use it?

A PRS combines many common genetic variants to estimate relative risk for complex diseases.

It’s not diagnostic and should be used with clinical factors (age, sex, labs, lifestyle, family history). PRS performance can vary by ancestry.

  • How is PRS different from single gene variant testing?

Single gene variant looks for rare, high-impact variants (e.g., BRCA1/2) that can greatly increase risk. PRS aggregates many small-effect variants to provide a risk estimate.

It’s possible to have negative single gene testing yet a high PRS, or vice versa; they answer different questions and can be complementary.

  • What is pharmacogenetic (PGx) testing and how can it help?

PGx identifies genetic differences affecting drug metabolism or response (e.g., clopidogrel, SSRIs, opioids).

Results are stable for life and can help your clinician choose or dose medications more safely and effectively.

Keep your PGx report accessible and share it with your care team.

  • What happens if a pathogenic variant is found—should my family be tested?

Often, yes. We provide targeted familial testing for at-risk relatives and can help coordinate cascade testing with appropriate counseling.

  • Can my results ever change?

Science evolves. New evidence can reclassify variants or refine PRS and clinical guidance. For WGS and many panels, we offer periodic reanalysis or clinician-initiated re-review.

  • How do I order a test / who can order it?

Tests are ordered by a licensed physician so they are used and interpreted in the appropriate clinical context.

  • Is genetic testing covered by insurance?

Coverage depends on the patient's insurance plan. Confirm eligibility directly with the insurance provider.
